February 21 - International Mother Language Day
This is a relatively young holiday - it entered the calendars around the world only in 1999. And in Ukraine, too, it has only just begun to write its history, although the very problem of the Ukrainian language in the Ukrainian lands dates back several centuries.
In October 1999, at the Thirtieth Session of the General Conference of UNESCO, the International Mother Language Day was introduced as a reason to reflect and focus on the language issue. Since February 21, 2000, this day has been celebrated in Ukraine as well.
