Today, according to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 5 million people die each year from tobacco use; this figure is expected to rise to 8 million by 2030. The main causes of deaths related to smoking are cardiovascular diseases (47%); respiratory diseases (19%); lung cancer (16%); other cancers (9%). About 70% of tobacco-related deaths occurred in people between the ages of 35 and 69, meaning that everyone who died in this age group lost an average of 19 years of life. About 11.5 million people smoke in Ukraine, including 9.1 million men and 2.5 million women. In percentage terms - 60% and 11.2%, respectively. About a third of the population between the ages of 18 and 25 are regular smokers. More than half of all smokers smoked their first cigarette before the age of 12.
College students discussed the myths surrounding smoking, the legal consequences of tobacco use, and the economic consequences of this bad habit during a Health Day at KramKTD by visiting the "No Smoking" thematic station.
